Implicated researchers working despite the lockdown
The long-time RiboClub member Yingfu Li and his colleagues are fighting COVID-19

McMaster has a team, assembled from Faculties of Science, Engineering and Medicine, to work on developing an alternative and point-of-care (POC) test kit for SARS-CoV-2. The test does not require reverse transcriptase, PCR processing enzymes and the expensive centralized equipment used in the current tests.  The final test will be composed of a sample collection device, a sample processing solution, and a nucleic acid lateral flow (NALF) test strip with an output similar to pregnancy test. Before the pandemic, the team had been working on a home test for infectious bacteria. That technology is now being adapted to detect COVID-19.
